Review a Custody Episode and Prepare for an Outcome

A custody episode describes a particular stay. Its connected animal identity remains available after that episode is closed.

Before you beginOpen Shelter → Intake and select the intake number, or use the linked intake in the animal header.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Confirm the intake number and animal number. Review operational status and whether the animal remains In agency custody.
  2. Review Intake Type, Intake Reason, Intake Date / Time, and Jurisdiction to confirm the admission context.
  3. Review Found / Pickup Location, People, Source Incident, and Related Case. Open the linked records when more context is needed.
  4. Review Holds & Quarantine and the Condition & Notes sections, including initial observations, property, and legal notes.
  5. Open View Animal to assess current housing, medical concerns, restrictions, and lifecycle readiness.
  6. Select the correct movement or outcome pathway for the actual event. A draft or a date passing does not by itself close custody.
  7. After a completed outcome, review the animal and episode again. Confirm the correct disposition is recorded and custody has the expected state.
